Contuck Preserve is situated perfectly along ¾ miles of the Green River in Mill Spring, North Carolina. A tributary of the Broad River, these waters are nationally recognized among avid kayakers and canoe enthusiasts as one of the top rivers in the country with notorious Class IV and V rapids. Contuck Preserve is located downstream from the wild water, where the river levels out and flows through mild rock gardens and drops over easy ledges. Here is the perfect spot for enjoyable kayaking and canoeing, trout fishing, and camping.

Our Riverside Picnic Pavilion provides ample space for families and friends to enjoy the cool waters on a hot sunny day. Wadding in the river is easy along our gentle, rock-lined beach. There are also hiking trails cut along the riverbed that host several fishing holes and rustic campsites for you to enjoy. River activities at Contuck Preserve take center stage, giving you both a restful retreat and an active adventure right in your own backyard!

Extending outside Contuck’s gates there are popular hiking trails (16 miles worth) located all throughout the Green River Game Lands, a rugged 10,000 acres tract owned by the state. The Green River offers a steady flow year round, allowing you to enjoy all that it has to offer. As a resident of Contuck Preserve, you will have many reasons to explore this beautiful river.
